On Saturday, 27th September 2025, Manchester Nepali Samaj proudly hosted Nepal Day 2025 for the second time, in partnership with the Manchester Museum South Asia Gallery. Set within the inspiring surroundings of the South Asia Gallery, the event was a thoughtful, creative, and deeply meaningful celebration of Nepal’s rich cultural heritage and the lived experiences of the Nepali speaking diaspora in the UK.

This year’s event held particular emotional weight, as it began with a minute of silence in memory of those who lost their lives during recent protests in Nepal. It was a solemn reminder of the resilience of the Nepali people and a tribute to those affected by current events back home.

A Celebration Through Culture, Art, and Storytelling

Nepal Day is an immersive cultural event dedicated to highlighting Nepal’s rich cultural heritage and extraordinary natural diversity. The 2025 programme was thoughtfully curated to offer visitors a deeper understanding of Nepal’s people, traditions, landscapes, and biodiversity through art, multimedia, and personal artefacts contributed by members of the community.

One of the central features of the day was a beautifully arranged temporary cultural exhibition, featuring domestic and everyday items meaningful to members of the diaspora. These included musical instruments, sculptural artworks, jewellery, cooking and culinary tools, fabrics, and traditional clothing. Each object told a unique story of migration, memory, and identity, offering powerful insights into the lives of the community.

Live performances by members of the community added further depth to the event. Throughout the day, attendees enjoyed a vibrant programme of traditional dance, live music, and song performances. Young members of the community took to the stage with heartfelt musical renditions that celebrated Nepali heritage and identity. One of the highlights of the event was a guided yoga session, where participants of all ages actively took part, creating a calm and communal moment that reflected the holistic aspects of the culture.

Visitors also experienced a series of compelling audio-visual presentations and photographic displays, exploring Nepal’s rich cultural and natural biodiversity. A highlight of this segment was the special digital presentation titled

Deep Gratitude to Our Supporters

We are incredibly grateful to all who contributed to the success of Nepal Day 2025. In particular, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the Manchester Museum, whose continued collaboration and support made this event possible for a second year.

We offer a special thank you to the South Asia Gallery team, whose dedication and hard work were instrumental in curating and delivering such a meaningful and inclusive event. Their commitment to amplifying the voices and stories of South Asian diaspora communities is deeply appreciated.

Looking Forward

Nepal Day 2025 was not only a success; it was a celebration of cultural pride, remembrance, and community connection. By bringing together stories, artefacts, and voices from across the Nepali speaking diaspora, we continue to build understanding, preserve identity, and strengthen our collective voice.

We look forward to welcoming more people into this growing platform in the years to come.
