Manchester Nepali Samaj had the honour of participating in this year’s Didsbury Festival, a much-loved annual event that brings together communities from across Manchester for a day of creativity, culture, and connection. Despite the weather and occasional rain, our members turned up with great energy, spirit, and pride, and it truly showed.
The festival kicked off with a vibrant parade themed “Space,” where children and parents from our community walked together through the streets of Didsbury. Many took the opportunity to dress in imaginative space-themed outfits, while others proudly wore traditional Nepali attire, showcasing the beauty and vibrancy of our cultural heritage. The fusion of futuristic fun with cultural pride created a unique and eye-catching presence that was warmly received by all.
One of the highlights of the day was our Nepali food stall, which offered a taste of home-cooked, authentic cuisine. Visitors had the chance to try Sel Roti – a traditional homemade rice flour doughnut, Onion Bhaji – crispy and spicy fritters, and Aloo Dum – a tangy and flavorful spiced potato pickle, all in Nepali-style. The food stall attracted plenty of attention, with many people curious to try something new and delighted by what they found! The flavours, warmth, and hospitality made the stall one of the standout attractions of the day.
We want to extend our sincere gratitude to all the volunteers who worked behind the scenes to make this event possible, especially those who prepared and served the food voluntarily. Your generosity, hard work, and love for the community made all the difference. From cooking and decorating to organizing and participating, each and every contribution helped make the day a success.
Events like the Didsbury Festival are a wonderful reminder of the importance of cultural exchange, community involvement, and shared celebration. We were proud to represent Nepal and contribute to Manchester’s rich multicultural spirit.
To all who joined, supported, or simply stopped by to learn and taste, thank you. Your encouragement means a lot, and we look forward to many more events in the future where we can continue to connect, celebrate, and grow together.
Dhanyabad!
